A GROUP of pupils, parents and teachers from a Furness School are teaming up to take on 21-mile-trek to raise money for their school.

A team of 11 parents, five pupils and one staff member from Newton Primary School are taking on their first ever Coniston to Barrow (C2B) walk to help fundraise for their outdoor area.

The walk, which starts at Coniston Sports & Social Centre and finishes at Hawcoat Park Sports Club in Barrow, is celebrating its tenth annual event this year.

The group decided to take on the challenge after a parent approached the school about taking part.

Headteacher Mrs Lisa Fell, is a huge supporter of the charity walk.

She said: "Our school really champions healthy lifestyles among our pupils so we're more than happy to be involved in something promoting exercise.

"We have numerous after school clubs and programmes which promotes healthy lifestyles so the C2B is definitely something our school backs."

The team are hoping to raise up to £400 in order to develop their outdoor area.

Mrs Fell said: "We're looking to improve our outdoor space by raising some beds.

"The walk is a really big deal in the school in which families have come together to try and raise money for the school.

"I think it's fantastic and we're all going to be behind them supporting on the big day."

The walk takes place this Saturday from 8.30am.
