FOR the first time in its history, Bendrigg Trust will be taking part in the Keswick to Barrow (K2B) Walk.

Bendrigg Trust is a charity based near the South Lakes village of Old Hutton. It is an outdoor residential centre helping people with disabilities to reach their full potential and challenge themselves through inclusive adventure activities.

Leading the Trust’s first ever team of 12 people will be Sarah Garman, senior fundraising and marketing officer with the charity.

She said: “I had heard of the walk previously and always thought it sounded interesting, however never got around to entering.

“This year Bendrigg were contacted by a previous K2B walker, Mark, who suggested we put in our own team and it has grown from there.

“We have four supporters travelling up from London, one lady who works for Cicerone, who are partnering with Bendrigg this year to raise funds, as well as previous volunteers and supporters and those who are supporting Bendrigg for the first time.”

The Bendrigg team hoped to raise around £1,000. However, the current total stands at over twice this amount - almost £2500.

Ms Garman, of Kendal, added: “Hopefully this will be the start of a regular event in Bendrigg’s fundraising calendar.

“We’re all really looking forward to the day, if a little apprehensive about the challenge, and look forward to seeing thousands of pounds raised for brilliant local charities.”

Bendrigg Trust offers a wide range of adventure activities to people with disabilities, alongside residential opportunities. Examples include caving, climbing and canoeing. Since its foundation in 1978, the Trust has promoted independence and self-confidence in over 79,000 disabled and disadvantaged people throughout the UK.
