AROUND 2,500 participants will take part in the 20th edition of The Fred Whitton Challenge charity cycle ride on Sunday.

The event will see riders setting off from Grasmere to complete an anti-clockwise route taking in all the Lakeland passes.

Riders will be on the following route at these approximate times: Ambleside 6am to 8.30am; Kirkstone Pass 7am to 10 am; Keswick 8am to 11am; Honister Pass 9am to 12 noon; Newlands Pass, 10am to 1 pm; Whinlatter Pass 10am to 1 pm; Loweswater 11am to 2 pm; Cold Fell 11am to 2 pm; Gosforth 12noon to 4 pm; Hard Knott Pass 1pm to 5pm; Wrynose Pass 1pm to 6pm.

Roads at Blea Tarn and Great Langdale will be closed to traffic from 1pm to 6pm. The route will be marshalled and signposted, with warning signs for riders and motorists.
