CARLISLE is set to bask in blazing sunshine for the next couple of days - with temperatures as high as 22C predicted.

The Met Office is expecting bright and sunny conditions today and tomorrow in the city, as well as temperatures in the low 20s.

A spokesman for the forecaster said: “The forecast is going to be bright and sunny with periods of light cloud, but nothing really to speak of (in terms of the cloud).

“There will be bright, sunny days - quite good temperatures as well.”

The forecaster says Carlisle could see highs of 22C today, 21C tomorrow, before it begins to cool off for the second half of the week.

The spokesman added: “By Thursday it will be starting to cool off, but the north west will see the best of the temperatures.

“Scotland will also be doing well over the next couple of days.”

The weather is going to continue to worsen into the weekend.

He continued: “Things start to cool off later in the week, starting to get cooler air coming in from the south east.

“On Friday and Saturday this will be building and will bring showery rain.”

Sunday is expected to be cloudy with sunny intervals by early evening.

Temperatures fell to 3C overnight on Sunday into Monday in Carlisle.

Meanwhile, in Shap temperatures were as low as one degrees during the same period.

In Keswick temperatures were similar to those in Carlisle.
