WE all love a bargain.

And if you have been asleep under a rock for the last few months you won't yet know budget supermarket Aldi is set to open a new store in Barrow this week.

Hurray.

In fact, for the most thrifty among us, for being one of the store's first customers you can even get free stuff.

Crowds are expected to gather from early on Thursday for the opening, which will be made by two-time Olympic gold medalist, Philip Hindes.

And although the old Aldi on Hindpool Road retail park will now shut its doors, this must be seen as a huge coup for Barrow.

It is good to have a bigger brother version of this retailer showing confidence in the market to invest in the town.

Over the last few years, the popularity of the German brand has grown exponentially and it is now considered Britain's fifth largest supermarket.

The store will offer everything you would expect from the supermarket, from its Food to Go section to the Super 6 fruit and vegetable offer.

It is also good news on the jobs front and has filled an empty space on the Hollywood retail park.

Let's hope more retailers will now look at Aldi's vision to bring another boost to the offering in Barrow.
