A NEW support group has been set up in Windermere by the Cumbria Drug and Alcohol Service (CADAS).

CADAS is a charity offering support to individuals with drug and alcohol problems. It also offers advice and guidance to family members, communities and businesses.

The organisation currently has centres in Barrow, Kendal, Whitehaven and Carlisle.

However, the new group in Windermere offers support to people who might be unable to attend the above locations because of transport costs.

Julie Oram, coordinator of CADAS Kendal, said: “We have been approached by the police who said that there is a need locally. What we are offering at Windermere is a group therapy.”

According to Ms Oram, the group is open to “anybody that’s affected by substance misuse themselves, or family members that might be affected also.”

People can turn up at any point during the sessions, whether it’s advice from a CADAS staff member they need, or just a person to talk to.

The sessions are being held at Windermere Methodist Church on Thursdays, from 10am to 12pm.
