The case against a Workington man accused of killing his mother has been delayed.

Lee Sowerby was due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday, accused of the murder of Mary Annie Sowerby, who was known as Annie.

But the hearing has been put back to June 5 at the request of prosecutors.

A provisional trial start date of July 22 has been set.

Mrs Sowerby, a retired support worker who had been employed by Cumbria County Council, died at her home in Main Street, Dearham, on Tuesday, January 22.

Her 45-year-old son, of Honister Drive, Workington, was charged with murder the following day.

Sowerby has not yet entered a plea to the charge against him.
