A MAN accused of trying to kill a fellow worker in a depot on Carlisle's Pirelli tyre compound has appeared at the city's crown court.

Martin Bozhkov, a 20-year-old Bulgarian national, was charged following an alleged incident at the DHL premises within the Dalston Road site.

This is said to have occurred just after 3am on April 19, and resulted in a 43-year-old man being taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary with "serious injuries".

He was later released from hospital.

Bozhkov, of Warwick Road, Carlisle, made a brief appearance before a judge at the city's crown court on Thursday morning over a video link.

Dark-haired Bozhkov - wearing spectacles and a black T-shirt - faces one charge which alleges that he attempted to murder Michael Kadcik.

A second charge alleges that he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Mr Kadcik with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

Bozhkov's barrister, Kim Whittlestone, asked for the case to be adjourned for the preparation of a psychiatric report.

No pleas were entered by the defendant to the allegations he faces.

A provisional crown court trial date was fixed for September 16.

Judge Peter Davies also directed that an earlier additional hearing should take place on July 26, when Bozhkov will be produced at court.

In the meantime he was remanded in custody by Judge Davies.
