A BARROW man has been ordered to carry out 50 hours of community service after pleading guilty to two counts of assault.

Steven Paul Edney, of Risedale Road, appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old was charged with assaulting Naomi Edney on May 13 of this year and assaulting the same victim between April 25 and April 30.

Edney, who was represented in court by defence solicitor Karen Templeton, pleaded guilty to both offences, which happened in Barrow.

He was told to complete 50 hours of unpaid work under a community order.

The unpaid work must be completed within the next 12 months.

Magistrates did not make an order for compensation because the victim was unsupportive of the prosecution and she had not suffered any physical injury as a result of the assaults.

Edney was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
