FAMILIES are invited to join in an arts pop-up event near Cockermouth.

There will be music, theatre, arts and crafts at Midsummer Dreaming at Low Hall next month.

The event is being organised by Handpicked Productions and is supported by Arts Council funding.

A spokesman said: "We are offering families a space to slow down, reconnect, relax and have fun."

The organisers are promising theatrical battles, imaginative games, costumes, props, laughter and drama.

Rag Tag Arts will be teaching traditional circus skills, from juggling to unicycling, as well as entertaining audiences with walkabout stilt costumes and giant bubbles.

Children and adults alike can get creative and design their own floral crowns using locally grown summer flowers and foliage.

There is also the opportunity to make flying fish kites, culminating in a parade towards the end of the day.

Music will be provided by The Sessionistas. Refreshments will be available and guests are welcome to bring their own picnics.

Handpicked Productions is the brainchild of Anne Timpson and Gilli Goodfellow, who both have a background in arts development and engagement.

Anne said: “We are delighted to unveil our exciting plans which aim to provide families with small intimate experiences that allow them to regain that lost element of play.

"We hope these events encourage them to forget about daily hassles and allow them to enjoy being ‘in the moment’ in idyllic surroundings.”

Midsummer Dreaming takes place between 11am and 6pm on Saturday, July 6. Tickets cost £7 per person or £25 per family with admission for under 4s free. Ticket prices include all activities.
