THERE'S lots happening in Cockermouth this weekend.

More than 500 local performers will be entertaining audiences at 18 venues including Cockermouth Castle as part of Cockermouth Live!

The 15th Woolfest opens on Friday and will welcome stallholders and visitors from far and wide.

"Cockermouth Live! 2019 is bigger than ever," said a spokesman.

"The full programme gives details of all performances and is available from many shops and venues across town, including the Library/Tourist Information Centre, Kirkgate Centre and Billy Bowmans."

Woolfest fans will be converging on Cockermouth for two days of workshops, exhibitions, demonstrations, livestock displays and the best of wool crafts and creativity.

It takes place on Friday and Saturday from 10am at Mitchell’s Lakeland Livestock Centre.

A community art trail, ‘Meanders’, will be held in town for two weeks.

Artists will showcase their work in shop windows, bringing art and colour to the town centre.

Maggi Toner-Edgar, one of the directors and founder of the West Cumbria Artistic Network, said: "This is a great collaboration. West Cumbria artists work mainly in rural and remote locations, and we can provide opportunities to showcase their talent.

"We want to celebrate the West Coast in the theme of this year's event."
