A crowdfunding appeal to raise funds for a cinema restoration is due to close tomorrow.

The Alhambra cinema in Keswick is appealing for funding to restore the antique panelling, cast-iron radiators and lighting in their century-old cinema and have currently raised £13,386 of their £15,000 target on the website, with a further £1,000 in funds that people have given them directly.

They are very close to reaching their overall target.

Anyone wishing to add to the total should donate at their crowdfunding page at: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/keswick-alhambra-restore-the-glory by June 27 at 12.09pm.

Owners of the cinema have been overwhelmed by the response to the crowdfunding appeal, both in terms of funds raised, and the words of support people have put in the comments section on their crowdfunder website. They said: "It is such an honour to be stewarding such a well-loved Keswick institution. Thanks to all of you who have given, we have been able to get the lighting commissioned too. The wiring is already in place, it's just a matter of trying to work out how much we have to spend on light fixtures themselves - and to choose them."

The ceiling is almost finished and the scaffolding will be coming down shortly. They have decided to resurface the radiators in gold, but paint the tin panels the burgundy (brinjal) colour that will surround the bottom half of the cinema.

The cinema will open again on July 2. Work will still be ongoing after July 2, so only the balcony will be open for seating.

They will screen Yesterday (12A), Small Island (15) and Victoria (PG).
