THE A5086 between Cockermouth and Egremont has had £342,000 worth of resurfacing works.

As part of the additional £12m funding received from the Department for Transport in November 2018, Cumbria County Council has invested the cash into the key road.

A number of issues were raised by the community about the road, including loose and defective kerbs, structural damage and the skid resistance of the surface.

As part of the works, which were completed over a three week period, a 700 metre stretch of the road was excavated to a depth of 250mm, a 300 metre stretch excavated to a depth of 50mm, and the defective kerbs were replaced. Renewed iron works were also installed under the surface and new road markings laid.

Keith Little, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I am delighted that so much work has been done using this additional funding. We were pleased that the government recognised the challenges facing our transport network, our teams have worked hard to ensure that the funding has been invested in to important projects all over the county.”

“The A5086 is a vital artery connecting communities between Cockermouth and Egremont and the £342,000 investment will facilitate improved road safety, enhanced connectivity and help stimulate economic growth.”
