A Whitehaven woman who was inspired to raise money for chemotherapy packs after seeing an article in the paper has raised £340.

Ruth Hasson saw a piece by Cheryl Cain who is a nurse practitioner at West Cumberland Hospital who is looking for sponsors to fund chemotherapy packs for cancer patients of the Henderson Suite and she decided to run a yoga day to raise money for the packs.

On international yoga day she ran a charity event and raised money through a raffle, entrance fees and donations. She said: "We had a wonderful day and prizes ranging from Champagne, cinema tickets, a gym membership, a Moky voucher, wine and Chocolates and a tot spot voucher."

The event was held in Bigrigg Village Hall and the group practiced Sun Salutation yoga, with a touch of Yoga Shred.

She said: "Every penny from the event is going to chemotherapy care packs for the West Cumberland Hospital, Henderson Suite. We had a very emotional and happy day. Thank you to everyone who supported us, and Marisa Rule for her photography skills, which she donated free of charge for the charity."

Cheryl Cain said: "I went along to the yoga day, Ruth has done fab with arranging the event and raising funds for the care packs, we managed to arrange an extra 23 packs to be made from the day and the piece in the paper probably got us an extra seven or so."

Each care pack costs £20 each. Any individual or organisation that would like to sponsor a pack should contact Cheryl at cheryl.tropic@gmail.com
