Five firefighting crews were mobilised last night to an "inferno" that had broken out at a holiday park.
Firefighters from Carlisle east and west stations, Silloth, Aspatria and Wigton were all scrambled to tackle a major fire that had broken out at Solway Holiday Village in Silloth.
Breaking out at about 3am, a spokesman for Carlisle east fire station said the fire had taken hold of the holiday park's recreational centre.
"We were fighting the fire for about four hours," the spokesman said.
"We had firefighters tackling the blaze both inside and outside the building - some went in with breathing apparatus, some took to the roof while others operated our aerial ladder platform.
"Thankfully, the building was empty at the time, and we managed to put a stop to the fire before it was completely destroyed."
