Children will have the opportunity to swim for 10p at Wigton swimming baths over the summer holidays.
Allerdale children aged 16 and under will once again be able to take advantage of the cheap swims at Wigton Baths, Workington Leisure Centre, Cockermouth Leisure Centre and Keswick Leisure pool thanks to funding from Allerdale Council.
The scheme starts on Monday and will continue throughout the school summer holidays.
George Kemp, executive member with responsibility for community services, said: “I’m really pleased that we’re able to offer the 10p swims for kids scheme again. It’s a great way for children to stay active during the holidays without breaking the bank.”
The scheme has been taking place over the six-week school holidays in pools across Allerdale since 2013. Last year the centres saw almost 5,500 10p swims take place between July and September.
Martin Horne, Partnership Manager for GLL in Allerdale said: “We’re delighted that the council has again funded this excellent scheme.
“We aim to get more people more active more often and being able to offer affordable swimming opportunities in our centres helps us to achieve this.”
