An athletic fundraiser has spoken of the touching moment he saw his efforts making a real impact.
Malcolm Wood, who has completed more than 160 parkruns and is a member of Cumberland Athletics Club, has raised more than £2500 for charity.
A key part of Mr Wood’s fundraising was a cake sale at Workington Cricket Club on April 13, after the Workington parkrun. The event saw him smash his £1000 target.
He also organised a bowling night for the members of Cumberland Athletics Club and a sweepstake in which colleagues guessed his finishing time.
Malcolm’s fundraising efforts aided the West Cumberland Hospital, contributing £500 to the Henderson Suite and helping buy fans for the Ellerbeck Ward. A further £1043 was donated to Macmillan Cancer Support through Malcolm's Just Giving page.
Chemotherapy patients ring a bell in the Henderson Suite at the end of their treatment to mark the milestone, and Malcolm told of the touching moment he saw the impact of his efforts: “Something that really hit me last week when we took the cheque into The Henderson Suite was seeing the bell on the way out,” he said.
