Police are investigating a theft of “thousands of pounds’” worth of whisky from a lorry on the A66 near Temple Sowerby.

The theft took place between 10pm on Monday and 5am on Tuesday.

A Post-Kogeko Logistics lorry, which was parked in the eastbound A66 carriageway layby, located on the approach to Temple Sowerby, was broken in to during the night.

A police spokesman said: “Thousands of pounds’ worth of ‘Aberlour’ - a 12-year-old whisky - was taken.

“Police are appealing for any witnesses using the road between these times who may have noticed anything suspicious occurring.
