A NUMBER of motorists have appeared in court to face their punishment.

All of the offenders were dealt with at Carlisle’s magistrates’ court.

Martin Peter Bell, 43, of Pugin Street, in Denton Holme, Carlisle, was fined £105 after being caught at 75mph along the 60mph section of the A69 at Low Row. He was given three penalty points and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 to fund victim services.

A woman caught speeding at 50mph in a 40mph zone was given three penalty points.

Lorraine Ann Barbarics, 58, of Croft Crescent, Dearham, pleaded guilty and was also fined £150 plus a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Alan Crawford admitted speeding after he was clocked at 58mph - 8mph above the limit - on the A66 at Bassenthwaite Lake on February 14.

The 41-year-old, of McCarron Close, Maryport, was given three penalty points and must pay an £83 fine, £30 vitcim surcharge and £85 costs.

Driving at 90mph in a 70mph zone landed Liam Friel, of Cockfield Drive, Workington, in court. He was speeding along the A595 Distington bypass in his Seat car on January 31.

As well as three penalty points and a £143 fine, Friel must pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

William Kinsella, 21, of Scalegill Road, Moor Row, admitted driving a Volkswagen Golf car along Inkerman Terrace with a defective tyre.

Court papers show the front nearside tyre had less than 1.6mm of tread. He was given three penalty points and fined £307 plus £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
