A TOWN'S former magistrates' court looks set to be given a new lease of life as a retirement complex.

Churchill Retirement Living is preparing a planning application to create a new retirement living development in the former South Cumbria Magistrates' Court building on Burneside Road in Kendal.

A public exhibition will be held at the Town Council Chamber, Kendal Town Hall, Highgate, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 4DL on Tuesday 6th August 2019 from 5pm until 7pm, where members of the local community will have the opportunity to see the proposals and meet members of the Churchill team.

Plans for the development are also available for public viewing through this live consultation link – https://www.churchillretirement.co.uk/planning/live-consultations/ – which can be accessed online from Tuesday 6th August to Tuesday 20th August 2019.

Stuart Goodwill, Managing Director of Churchill Retirement Living’s in-house Planning consultancy, says:

“There is a compelling overall housing need in Kendal, especially for older people. Our proposed development will go some way to increasing access to this type of housing for local residents. By meeting this rising demand, we can allow older people to downsize and free up under occupied houses in the local area for families.

“The site is excellently located on previously developed land within easy walking distance of the town centre.

“As well as meeting the need for high-quality retirement apartments, the development will bring benefits to the local economy. Owners will be within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and other amenities in the town, helping to boost local businesses.”
