The classic gangster story of Bugsy Malone will be told with an all-child cast in Workington in September.

The gangster musical will see real bullets replaced by “splurge guns” which cover their victims in cream as Workington and District Amateur Musical Society’s Next Generation group stage an all-singing, all-dancing production packed full of comedy.

The title character will be played by Harry Basnett, while Katy Harper takes on the role of Blousey Brown.

Dominic Wilson is Fat Sam, with Aimee Little as Tallulah, Joshua Pattison as Dandy Dan, and Lucas Martin as Fizzy.

Jake Stott plays Capt Smolsky, Conner Sharples is O’Dreary, Heather Gibbon is Cagey Joe, and Layla Nicol is Singer.

James Norman plays Knuckles, Isabelle Pears takes on the role of Lena Marrelli, and Henry Voce is Leroy.

Society spokesman Daniel MacCreedy said: “We decided to do the show as we have a large Next Generation section of nearly 50 children and Bugsy is a fantastic show to accommodate a large group of children, with lots of parts and lots of fun.

“It’s almost a rite of passage as most of us have been in a production of Bugsy Malone at one time or another.”

The WADAMS Next Generation production of Bugsy Malone will be staged at the Carnegie Theatre on Finkle Street on September 12 to 14.

Tickets are £14 each, plus a booking fee, available at carnegietheatre.co.uk or on 01900 602122.
