Brampton Brownies past and present celebrated the work of Jill Jennings, the longtime Brown Owl, at a reunion party.

Mrs Jennings has been the leader of First Brampton Brownies for 18 years and has supported more than scores of young women throughout the years.

“I thought it would be a nice idea to say goodbye and bring people in to thank them for helping,” Mrs Jennings said.

“When I started writing out a list of all the past Brownies there were more than 100 in total.”

New and old brownies alike came together for a reunion party to wave goodbye to Mrs Jennings.

Overall, she thinks that more than 50 people came along to the get together.

“It was actually so lovely to see the girls all grown up,” she remarked.

“Some of them walked in and they just looked so lovely and grown-up... I felt quite emotional.”

There was coffee, tea, and juice for the younger ones as well as cake and other nibbles.

Photos from across the years were scattered about for the women to reminisce, and if they found themselves in one of the photos - they were invited to keep it.

“We had a little memory book that went around, and people would write in their memories of Brownies.”

It wasn’t just the Brownies who came back to say goodbye to Mrs Jennings.

Former helpers and mums of past Brownies came along to share their memories.

Over the course of 18 years, Mrs Jennings has made a lot of memories, but one recurring memory sticks out the most.

“When we got a new member into Brownies, we would sit in a circle and I would ask the Brownies to tell them what we do at Brownies.

“It was lovely for me to see the things that they said... some of them would just say ‘we make friends and we have fun’.”

Although Mrs Jennings has been a constant throughout the years as Brownie leader, she says that none of her work would have been possible without the support of her helpers.
