Army cadets relaxed at Talkin Tarn with a night of kayaking, raft building and canoeing.

The adventure nights were a way for cadets from Brampton Detachment and Carlisle’s Harraby Detachment to wind down after a year of hard-work.

Sgt Mjr Liam Allen, said: “It was also a chance for the cadets to work in teams and build on team work and leadership skills while, most importantly, having fun.”

Harraby Detachment spent their evening canoeing and kayaking while Brampton Detachment built and raced their own rafts across the tarn on a different evening.

Both evenings were hosted by Talkin Adventures, which runs a range of activities on both land and water. Sandra McDowell, Harraby Detachment Commander, said: “A few of them were a bit nervous to get on the water but once they were on they absolutely loved it. We always try and do a summer treat.”

It came just as the cadets went off to the week-long summer training camp, which puts their skills to the test alongside cadets from across the country - shooting, camping, and field training.
