Failing to pay a £12.60 train fare landed a man with a £285.60 court bill.
Jacob Kent, 20, of Chatsworth Square, Carlisle, admitted being caught at Manchester Picadilly station having failed to pay the Arriva North Rail fare.
Fare-dodging proved to be far more expensive however, as he admitted the crime and was ordered to pay £12.60 compensation plus £30 victim surcharge and costs of £150.
