There’s only one week left to get a dose of nostalgia infused with Wigton history.

The Wigton Museum pop-up event has been taking place in Saundersons’ Mica Hardware shop for the past three weeks, but is set to come to a close on Friday.

It showcases items used by workers in the town as well as children’s toys, which give a hint of nostalgia for museum visitors.

Among the objects on display are clocks and weaving looms which are part of Wigton heritage as well as old games from the 1950s and 1960s.

Sandra Hodson said: “It was to try and get more footfall into Wigton, but also to keep people aware who are still very much in Wigton.

“It was about joining forces with the high street; we thought we could increase footfall for some of the shops during what is basically quiet months.”

The pop-up event offers fun for both old and young during the holidays as a way to celebrate local history and experience what Wigton used to be like.

In the three weeks it has been open, they have had “a few hundred people through” the museum.

“We decided to set-up with Saundersons who had the space,” explained Sandra.

They have even had comments from visitors who visited Wigton purely for the exhibition, because the objects hold memories for them.

Sandra continued: “We’ve had some brilliant comments such as ‘it’s taking me down memory lane’, or ‘I can remember working with these machines’.

“We had people who actually used to work on weaving looms come in.”

Wigton Museum has hosted exhibitions in the town before but they don’t typically run for an entire month.

This pop-up exhibition is also slightly different to the usual exhibition as it is connecting the town history with the high street.

For those who are looking for something to do but have yet to pop along, Sandra urges: “Come for a trip down memory lane.”
