A professional kite display, a fun fair and market will be held at the weekend in West Cumbria.

Workington Town Council is holding its Kite Festival in Harrington on Saturday and Sunday.

The event, which runs from 11am to 4pm on both days, will feature a kite display by international professionals SmileFactor10. The impressive kites can be seen from miles around.

There will also be a fun fair, a local market, face painting and children’s entertainment in the form of Imagination Parties and Rainbow Jelly. The event is free, with a small charge for the fun fair.

A spokesman for the town council said: "We are delighted to bring the Kite Festival back to Harrington for its third year. It gets bigger and better each year and is very popular with the locals and surrounding areas."

People can get involved in teddy parachuting and ‘come fly with me’ kite sessions as part of the main timetable of the event, which will also see demonstrations by Graham Lockwood and Jim Potts, flying his Chinese Dragon kite.

A special area on top of the hill will be designated for anyone wanting to fly their own kites.

Workington Town Council are also holding free kite making workshops ahead of the event on Wednesday and Thursday at Harrington Youth Club with kite expert Alan Poxon.

Workshops start at 11am and 2pm each day.
