SIX members of a Wigton Scouts group are preparing to for the Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

Douglas Hodgson, Ben Norman, Jack Naylor, Aled Ashburner, Ben Roberts and Felix Green - all members of 1st Baden Powell Scouts group - will tackle the Gold and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards on the Isle of Skye.

The boys will meet with other Scouts from across the country and spend a week on Skye, with four days spent hiking.

Group Leader, Julie Bryceson, said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our Scouts and something which they will remember for the rest of their lives.

“It won’t be easy but they have done practice hikes and are prepared, so they should enjoy it. Places were limited, so we were extremely lucky to have six of our Scouts allocated places.”

Some Scouts travelling from Reading and the Midlands will spend a night camping on Scout Land in Wigton before continuing to Skye the following day.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Scout troop is looking forward to their summer camp, which will take place at Lough Dan, near Dublin.

“We like the Scouts to experience different places and meet Scouts from other countries and it’s some years since we’ve been to Ireland, so when it was suggested by a leader in the group, we all agreed it was a good idea.” explained Julie

Scout meetings will resume in September, the group has two troops, with one meeting on Tuesday and the other on Thursday evenings, anyone interested in a place is asked to contact Julie via email juliebryceson@hotmail.com, through the Facebook page or their website.
