Activists are calling on Allerdale Borough Council to follow the lead of others in declaring a climate emergency.
An online petition is calling on the council to agree to a number of points alongside declaring an emergency.
Among the pledges that residents would like to see introduced in the area is greater investment in ethical funds and a divestment from fossil fuels, to make Allerdale carbon neutral by 2030, and to work with local sustainability partners to make the area a more environmentally friendly place to live.
The petition comes as more local councils declare a climate emergency both across the country and the county.
Carlisle City Council, Eden District Council, and South Lakes District Council have already taken action.
The petition can be found on the Allerdale Borough Council website.
