A heartbroken family have paid tribute to a woman who died in a crash on the M6 near Penrith.

Martina Taylor, 62, has been holidaying in Cumbria with two of her grandchildren.

They were on their way back to the Manchester area when the collision - involving a car and a motorhome - occurred.

It happened on the southbound carriageway of the M6, between junctions 41 and 40, at 11.50am on Saturday.

The two young children were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Ms Taylor's family said: “Martina was taking two of her beloved grandchildren home, after spending a week away in Cumbria when tragedy struck.

"She was much loved by her mum and siblings and leaves behind a devastated family, including three children, five grandchildren and friends.”

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the crash.

Anyone with dashcam footage is also urged to come forward.
