Identical twins were delighted after discovering they had done better than expected.

Matthew and Daniel Scott, from Oulton, near Wigton, headed to Nelson Thomlinson School in Wigton to find out their fate together.

Having both done reasonably well in their mock exams they had high expectations for their final results, and were pleased to find out they had matched - and done better in some areas - than the mocks.

Matthew said: “I’m going to go to sixth form here to study further maths, physics and business, because I’m considering accountancy.”

And Daniel is also hoping to go to sixth form at the school, but is also considering an apprenticeship.

Playful rivalry between the brothers has kept them on track during the exam period.

“There’s been some rivalry but we’ve helped each other do better,” explained Daniel.

“We’ve helped each other with revision and kept each other on track.”

Philippa Hall, from Ireby, was emotional after opening her results.

Seeing she had achieved four nines, three eights and three sevens was a complete shock.

She said: “I’m emotional and excited. I cannot believe it. I didn’t expect to do this well.”

Philippa will now go on to study maths, geography and music at sixth form.

Meaghan Lloyd, from Dundraw, was surprised when she opened her results to find she had achieved two nines, four eights, two sevens and two sixes.

She said: “I’m relieved and surprised; I’ve done better than expected.

“I’m going to stay at sixth form to do biology, chemistry, psychology and geography.”

Meaghan then hopes to go on to study medicine in the future.

Her mum Joanne was absolutely delighted with her daughter’s results.

“She has worked really hard and deserves what she got,” said Joanne.

“I couldn’t have asked any more of her.”
