A STAND-UP comedian and an award-winning author are to appear at the Sands Centre in Carlisle.

The host of BBC One’s primetime singing entertainment show All Together Now and regular on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, Rob Beckett, will appear at the Sands Centre on May 2 next year.

The 33-year-old Londoner has also hosted Comic Relief and Children In Need, as well as making appearances on Would I Lie To You? and Live At the Apollo.

Three years since he set off on his last tour, the Mouth of the South, the funny-man is back on the stage, with his Wallop tour.

During his last tour he sold more than 80,000 tickets.

About the show, The Mail on Sunday described it in the following way: “Lights up the stage with his magnetic personality (not to mention the dazzle from his teeth)”.

Also appearing at The Sands Centre will be best-selling children’s author Terry Deary, who made his name with the international success of the Horrible Histories books.

Worldwide sales of Horrible Histories have surpassed 25m copies.

Terry will join two of the Horrible Histories Live on Stage shows at the Sands Centre on September 21.

Two Horrible Histories shows - Terrible Tudors and Awful Egyptians - are being performed between September 19 and September 22.

The Terrible Tudors show takes a trip through the horrible Henries right through to the end of Elizabeth, showing the fate of Henry’s headless wives and his scuffle with the Pope.

While the Awful Egyptians journeys into the world of Pharoahs and the history of Egypt, with 3D effects showing the Spanish Armada firing cannonballs into the auditorium.

Tickets to see Rob Beckett are priced at £23 plus booking fee and are available from The Sands Centre box office on 01228 633766.
