A YOUNG motorist who seen driving "erratically" through Silloth at speed in the early hours of the morning has admitted drink driving.
Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates' Court heard how police became aware of Ryan Johnston, 23, at around 12.50am, on September 8 as he drove his Mercedes sprinter through Silloth town centre and then along the B5301 when he was stopped.
"He appeared to be under the influence ," said prosecutor Pam Ward. A breath test revealed he had 43mcg of alcohol 100mls of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg. John Smith, defending, said there was a high chance Johnston, an engineer, may lose his job. District Judge Gerald Chalk fined Johnston, from Kirkbride, £400 and imposed a 13 month ban. He must also pay £85 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.
