CUMBRIA Police has been given permission to keep more than £5,000 which was seized from a motorist who was stopped as he drove north on the M6.
The cash - in a car being driven by motorist Mai Khanh-Linh - has been retained following an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Though no details of any suspected crime were revealed during a hearing at Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates' Court, District Judge Gerald Chalk approved the seizure.
Mr Khanh-Linh was represented by barrister Waheed Baber.
Cumbria Constabulary was represented by barrister Steven Reed.
He told Judge Chalk that the two sides in the case had reached agreement over the cash seizure and that Mr Khanh-Linh was no longer opposing the move.
As he formally approved the order, the judge also ruled that Mr Khanh-Linh must pay the costs of the hearing, agreed at £2,350.
