FIRE services in the region are holding a taster sessions for would-be firefighters.

The taster sessions will support a new recruitment drive in County Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland and will be launched next month.

They include a presentation that covers all aspects of the job, not just the operational elements such as responding to incidents, but also the community work which occupies far more of a firefighter’s time.

They will also have the opportunity to undertake some role-related tests which will help them to understand the physical aspects of the role and firefighters will be on hand to answer questions.

Stuart Errington, Chief Fire Officer in County Durham, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of the fire and rescue service, the modern firefighter not only saves lives but they provide a vital role within the community to educate people on how to stay as safe as possible.”
