IT IS among the most spectacular of the season’s sights - cloaking an entire town.

A stunning cloud inversion hung over Keswick yesterday, attracting early-morning walkers keen to catch a glimpse of the remarkable view.

These pictures - captured by News & Star photographer Stuart Walker - were shared widely on Twitter, showing the magical sight at its best.

Keswick and the surrounding Borrowdale area are renowned for being a great place to see a cloud inversion.

Weather experts say inversions happen when you get the magic combination of cold temperatures and high pressure.

The National Trust say there are great viewpoints to see them, including Castle Crag, looking over Derwent Water to Skiddaw in the distance, and over upper Borrowdale, with Glaramara and Great End rising towards the high central fells of the Scafell Massif.
