SAINTS prop Matty Lees has thanked all of those who have sent him congratulations after he picked up the Betfred Super League Young Player of the Year award at the Steve Prescott Man of Steel Awards ceremony last night.

The England Knights prop, who enjoyed a terrific year until suffering season-ending horrific perforated bowel injury at Leeds the week before Wembley, took out the prize at the Lowry, Salford.

He is still recovering after undergoing major surgery on his intestines in August.

He has been widely praised for his energetic, up and at em contribution this year across the game.

In response he Tweeted this morning: "Can’t thank everyone enough for the messages and support this year. Honoured to of won Super League young player of the year!"

Justin Holbrook, who led Saints to a 16-point clear finish at the top of the table, beat Ian Watson to the coach of the year award.

Tommy Makinson collected the top try scorer award to put on the shelf alongside his Golden Boot.

All will now be focused on seeing the team pick up the big prize at Old Trafford on Saturday to recognise the collective effort of the year.
