School pupils have enjoyed the chance to quiz their local MP on everything from Brexit to Strictly Come Dancing!

Copeland MP Trudy Harrison was invited to Distington Community School where the Year 4 children have been learning about London and the Houses of Parliament.

After having a go at being politicians, voting and making laws, the group then put Mrs Harrison on the spot.

They asked questions about everything from her favourite London landmark, what it’s like to be an MP, what she thinks of Brexit and whether she would like to go on Strictly Come Dancing or I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!

She said: “The children were really enthusiastic and were clearly enjoying their topic on London and politics as they were very well-informed and could even tell me which Tube trains to get to the Houses of Parliament.

“It was a lively session and a lot of fun and I hope to be able to see the group down in Westminster soon for a visit.”

Steven Bragg, class teacher and Key Stage 2 lead, said: “The visit of MP Mrs Harrison is something that the children had been looking forward to. They were very enthusiastic, sharing what they have learnt about London and politics.

"They particularly enjoyed having the opportunity to ask Mrs Harrison some of their own questions. This experience has been great for our children to be involved in. Thank you once again to Mrs Harrison."

And one pupil, Travis, added: “It was great fun when me and Oliver headed the debate about whether we should ban cars from Distington.”
