A CARE home has been rated ‘good’ by the health watchdog.

Residents living at Abigail Lodge, on Gloucester Road, Delves Lane, enjoy a ‘friendly atmosphere’ and receive care from ‘excellent’ staff.

According to the report from the Care Quality Commission, the carers are respectful, welcoming and stand out for their ‘very caring nature’.

One resident said: “I have a very good relationship with the staff, and they understand my needs well.”

Inspectors praised the care home team for personalising the support they gave to residents and going out of their way to arrange regular trips around Consett, Durham and Whitley Bay.

They also said that carers at the home were always keen to promote the residents’ independence and involve both residents and their families in decisions regarding their care.

Inspectors also said that morale among the staff at the home was very high and that they displayed good team work, helped by the “approachable and responsive” care home manager.

The home, which is run by Four Seasons Health Care, provides nursing and residential care for up to 60 people.

Angela Clarke, managing director England North-East, for Four Seasons Health Care, said: “We are so pleased to receive such a glowing report from the Care Quality Commission.

“Our residents feel safe, cared for and in good hands which is a testament to the fantastic work of the team and care home manager.”
