PARK RUNNERS will wear pink for their next run this weekend, as they raise cash and awareness for a cancer support charity.
'Think Pink Fundraising Group' support the breast cancer care unit at the West Cumberland Hospital; they will be working with parkrun on Saturday to raise awareness and charity funds.
They aim to support cancer care in West Cumbria so that patients do not have to travel for treatment.
The fundraising group was set up by Karen Ritson of Moresby Parks in 2008. She died aged 42 in 2015 after her own battle with breast cancer.
Laura Wylie of Think Pink said: "I think these ladies of the group are truly fantastic as well as the fact that everything they raise stays here in West Cumbria."
A film screening is held by the charity every year, on October 4 they raised £10,500 taking the overall 11 year figure above £80,000.
Saturday's parkrun will have pink collection tins to donate to the cause; along with pink cake at the usual meet-up in Workington Cricket Club afterwards.
Laura said: "Remember, everyone is welcome at parkrun whether you run, jog, walk or volunteer. So please come along, wear something pink and smile."
