Age shall not weary them and nor will it stop Fit 4 Life members cycling, climbing and walking to raise money for their gym this weekend.

Fit 4 Life is a social enterprise gym that started in Maryport 15 years ago and now operates in Workington and Whitehaven as well as running the Oval Centre gym in Salterbeck.

It now has 600 clients, of all ages. It runs specific courses for people with health problems as well as sessions for children and women.

Fit 4 Life is a not-for-profit gym which exists to help improve the health and well-being of people, especially those who need that bit of extra support, who might not feel comfortable exercising on their own or at busy leisure centres.

This year people of all ages and states of health will celebrate the gym’s 15th birthday by carrying out sponsored challenges on exercise bikes, rowing machines and treadmills. Challenges include rowing the length of different lakes, cycling from Maryport to Allonby and mini-triathlons.

Boss Dougie Pomfret said Fit 4 Life does not receive any regular funding and relies on its own fundraising activities and grants from Cumbria Community Foundation and several other funding organisations to keep running.
