BOLTON-le-Sands Horticultural Society's 72nd annual autumn show was a great success despite it being one of the wettest October's on record.

The village community centre had what organisers said was a "fabulous" display of flowers, fruit, vegetables and arts and crafts with exhibitors and visitors coming from as far away as Southport, Bolton and even Oxford.

The Blue Ribbon, National Chrysanthemum Society Silver Medal and M. Broadwith Trophy were presented to Derrick Ireland, of Yealand, for his vase of five Chrysanthemum exhibit which raised £10 in the Auction.

Fortunately the rain held off and the show was very well attended with more than 100 visitors. Many stayed for the end of show auction, conducted by onion grower Mike Craddock, which raised £51 - £30 of which will be donated to the children's brain tumour and cancer charity, Team Reece.

£30 of this total will be donated to our Charity of the year, TEAM REECE Children’s Brain Tumour and Cancer Charity. Our Auction runners were: Jessica Crabtree (9), Josh Rhodes (9), Bel & Loki Rhodes (7)

Visitors were also able to buy some top quality plants and bulbs which raised more than £100 for society funds.

The society's last event of the year will be the November talk on the subject of conserving hedgehogs which will be given by Rowan Worsman. It will take place on Thursday November 14 at the Old Boys' School, St Michael's Lane, starting at 7.30pm.
