A SPECIAL Barrow Park funday in 2002 helped to mark a century for the lovable teddy bear and raise money for the charity Childline.

The Mail, on Friday, August9, noted: "Excited children took their favourite teddy bears along to celebrate 100 years of the popular toys.

"The bears then sat beside their owners to watch the Crazy Bears Show.

"Children also took part in quizzes, as well as throwing themselves down inflatable slides and trying their luck on funfair games.

"In the evening, pop group Mystical Experience entertained the crowd with a range of classic tunes."

The event would have been much bigger but 30 stalls and attractions pulled out of Barrow's Party in the Park due to the town's outbreak of Legionnaires' disease.

It was noted: "The Withdrawls from the charity bash caused problems for organisers who had prepared a full day's bumper entertainment in aid of Childline."
