Schools, care homes and town centres were awash with special events and fundraising activities for Children in Need Day.

To date, the day has raised over £1 billion for charity since its first major appeal launched in 1980. The funds raised by the initiative go to disadvantaged young people across the UK.

Glen Garth House, an assisted living centre in Barrow for adults with mental health problems, was spotted out fundraising in Barrow town centre.

Ormsgill Primary and Newton Primary schools were two of the spots Pudsey Bear called in to.

Dawn Hubbard, assistant headteacher at Ormsgill Primary School, said “We joined up with Quarry Brow Nursery for Children in Need this year.”

“We had fitness coach and TV presenter Joe Wicks’ Big Move Morning in the hall at the start of the day, with around 200 kids participating in that. And then we had a special visit from Pudsey.”

“The children were really excited - some of the kids couldn’t believe they’d had a visit from the real-life Pudsey.”

“We’re hoping to raise around £250 for the BBC Children in Need charity once all the final donations are in.”
