SCORES of motorcyclists dressed for Christmas roared into Carlisle city centre to mark the annual launch of a Christmas toy appeal.

It was a spectacular show of support for Mission Christmas run by CFM’s Cash 4 Kids, in conjunction with the News & Star Toy Appeal.

Between 60 and 70 motorcyclists - dressed as Santa and elves - from across the county took part in the annual ride out to raise awareness for the appeal, making sure every child wakes up to a present on Christmas morning.

Sarah Oldham, charity executive at CFM, said: “I’d like to say a massive thank you to each and every one of the bikers.

“Once again they have brought everyone together and they’ve all given up their time to come and raise money and awareness for Mission Christmas.

“They really are amazing people.

“They do this on an annual basis giving up their time to come and help us. We really are grateful.”

The ride out is organised annually by Leviathan MCC, a local motorcyclist group.

Bill Taylor, vice chair of the group, said: “We’ve been involved for about 10 years now.

“We organise it with CFM. It’s one of our favourite events and one that we all always look forward to.

“Some of us only meet up this time every year, so it’s a great way to get people together while raising money.”

Tez Turner and his wife Elaine, also of Leviathan MCC, said: “We love doing it every year.

“We’ve taken part now for a good few years.

“To see the children’s faces and people smiling in cars as you ride down the road is a great feeling.”

The motorcyclists made their way from CFM in Kingstown to the city centre making a few stops along the way.

Shoppers were stunned by the unexpected roaring display as they came riding through the centre of the city.

Mayor of Carlisle, Marilyn Bowman came to show her support for the charity.

Cash for Kids is one of her chosen charities in her mayoral role.

She said: “I’m always delighted to support Cash for Kids.

“I like to come here and support them and raise some money for the charity.”
