A TRIO of six-year-olds are on a mission to save the environment.

The young boys have started a litter picking club at The Bishop Harvey Goodwin School in Currock.

So far Noah Rae, Cedric Rapacon and Logan Blaylock have given up their playtimes to keep the school clean and tidy.

Wearing hats and gloves and armed with a litter picker and bin bag, the three eco-warriors race around the school field and playground picking up any rubbish they could find.

Not only do they clean up, they try to spread the word to other children about how important it is to clean up and recycle.

Headteacher Sarah Nuttall, is very impressed with the youngsters using their own initiative. She said: “I’m so proud of them, the passion and motivation they have is amazing.

“I’m also thrilled about the parental support and the community feel they bring.

“Noah and his friends have now joined together with the caretaker and go out about three times a week and they really enjoy it.”

Six-year-old Noah is very passionate about saving the environment, admitting that after watching Blue Planet he wanted to protect the animals. He said: “We have to clean up and recycle to keep the animals safe.”

Both Logan and Cedric agreed that we have to do more.

Noah has his own litter picker at home and wants to spend his free time collecting litter from the park near where he lives.

His mum Sophie Greenwood, 30, said: “I’m so proud of them, Noah is so mature for his age and has such a simple view of how things should work.

“I honestly don’t know where he gets this passion from, we recycle and try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, but he is amazing.

“I will encourage him to keep going as long as he is enjoying it and he now has his own litter picker which he wants to decorate.”
