Four fire engines were called to a home which was engulfed in flames.
Three dogs were rescued by firefighters from Whitehaven, Workington and Frizington fire stations, with the blaze reported shortly after 12pm today.
Crews battled the fire - which had spread through the whole ground floor of the Lindow Street home in Frizington - spending about two hours at the property.
The occupiers of the home are believed to have evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews.
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service said: "The building was well alight on arrival.
"We used six breathing apparatus and three hose reel jets.
"We rescued three dogs from the property.
