Fraser Conn will help to fill the void left in Carlisle Cricket Club’s junior coaching set-up due to the departure of James Bell.

Bell, who played for Carlisle’s first-team last season as they won the Cumbria Cricket League Premier Division, is due to depart Edenside ahead of the 2020 season, having agreed to become Berkhamsted Cricket Club’s head coach.

He has played an integral role in the club’s youth system, leading Carlisle’s All Stars Cricket programme.

“I have taken a new role as head coach at Berkhamsted Cricket Club [near London], starting in the New Year,” Bell said.

“So, I will not be around this summer and wanted to thank everyone who has been involved with my cricket and coaching at Carlisle CC.

"Carlisle has given me a huge amount in my career, working in cricket - the opportunity to get involved in coaching, learn from some great people, play cricket and work with some fantastic youngsters.

"There are too many people to thank [individually], but thank you to everyone who has made my time at Carlisle so fun and rewarding."

As the club provided a winter update ahead of the upcoming campaign, secretary Mark Davidson said: “Following on from the annual general meeting, there are several changes in personnel for the 2020 season.

"It’s with much regret, from the club’s point-of-view, that I have to announce that James Bell will be taking up a post as head coach at Berkhamsted CC, Hertfordshire.

"I’m sure you will agree that James’s contribution to the recent success at all levels at Edenside cannot be underestimated and we wish him every success in his new role.

"I’m delighted to announce that Fraser Conn has agreed to accept the post of junior co-ordinator.

"Fraser will be familiar to many, both as an outstanding [first-team] player and coach."

Marc Brown and Olly Bradley will continue as Carlisle’s first-team and second-team captains, respectively.

Will Bell - the brother of James - is the new skipper of the third-team while Zach Du Plessis replaces Anthony Wilson as the Academy team’s captain.

Sam Richardson, meanwhile, will become the club’s women’s and girls’ development officer.

Scorer Geoffrey Osborne will return for the new season, too.
