Adult Social Care offices opening hours are as follows:

When offices are closed, the social care out of hours emergency telephone service is 01228 526690 – this can be used 24-hours a day for adult social care emergencies.

CHILDREN’S SERVICES

Children’s social care offices:

CIVIL OFFICES

Allerdale

The council’s head office, Allerdale House in Workington, and its area offices in Maryport, Cockermouth, Keswick and Wigton will be closed from 12pm on December 24 and will reopen on January 2.

The council’s Bereavement Services team will be available on the mornings of December 27, 30 and 31. Their normal office number is 01900 702620.

Allerdale House in Workington and the council’s telephone lines will be closed from 12pm on Tuesday December 24 until 9am on January 2. The Customer Contact Centres Keswick, Maryport and Wigton will close at the same time and will reopen at 9am on Thursday January 2.

During this period the emergency out-of-hours number is 0303 123 1702.

Carlisle

The Civic Centre’s Customer Contact Centre will close to the public at 3pm on Tuesday December 24 and will reopen at 9am on Thursday January 2.

Copeland

Copeland Council offices (including Market Hall and Millom) will be closed from 1pm on Tuesday, December 24. Its offices will also close at 3.30pm on Friday, December 20.

The Market Hall and Millom offices will reopen at 9am on Thursday, January 2.

Eden

The main offices at Mansion House and the Town Hall will close on Tuesday December 24 at 4pm and will reopen at 8.45am on Thursday January 2.

When the main offices are closed there is a duty officer who maintains an ‘out-of-hours’ emergency service. To contact the Duty Officer call 01768 212499.

REFUSE AND RECYCLING

Allerdale

Household recycling and waste collections scheduled between December 25 and 27 will be two days later than normal. That means collections due on Wednesday (Christmas Day) will be made on Friday, December 27, collections due on Thursday (Boxing Day) will be made on Saturday, December 28, with Friday, December 27 collections being made on Sunday, December 29.

Collections scheduled from January 1 until 3 will be one day later than normal. In addition, collections due to take place on Wednesday, January 1 (New Year’s Day) will be on Thursday January 2, collections scheduled for Thursday, January 2 will be picked up on Friday, January 3 and collections normally made on Friday that week will be on Saturday, January 4.

Collections scheduled for December 23, 24, 30 and 31 will be collected as normal.

If any residents would like their real or artificial Christmas tree collected, they are asked to place it next to their general waste bin on their specified collection day.

Carlisle

There will be some changes to the days you put out your refuse and recycling.

Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will all be open as usual throughout the festive season with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, when they will all be closed.

They will all be closing at the slightly earlier time of 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Otherwise they will be open at the usual opening hours shown below:

n Frizington, Yeathouse Quarry - 8am - 4pm, seven days a week. (note: may open later or close early during winter for health and safety reasons)

n Penrith, Flusco - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.

n Kirkby Stephen, Hobsons Lane - 8am - 6pm, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.

n Maryport, Glasson Industrial Estate - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.

n Workington, Clay Flatts - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.

n Wigton, Syke Park 8am - 6pm, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday.

n Carlisle, Bousteads Grassing - 8am - 6pm, seven days a week.

n Brampton, Townfoot Industrial Estate - 10am - 6pm every day except Tuesday

CUMBRIA HIGHWAYS

Cumbria County Council’s Highways service will operate an out-of-hours service between 3pm on Christmas Eve and 8am on Thursday January 2. There will be full 24-hour cover for Winter Maintenance activity, as well as out of hours emergency response throughout this period.

The Highways Hotline will be open on Friday 27, Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 December between 8.30am and 5pm. The Highways Hotline number is 0300 303 2992.

Carlisle

Crematorium: Open 8.30am to 4.30pm on Monday 23 December, Tuesday 24 December, Friday 27 December, Monday 30 December and Tuesday 31 December.

Open 1pm to 4.30pm:

Saturday 21 December, Sunday 22 December, Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December, Saturday 28 December, Sunday 29 December and Wednesday 1 January.

Open as usual from Thursday 2 January.

Copeland

Distington Hall Crematorium office will close at 1pm on December 24 and will reopen on December 27, and will close again for one day on January 1. The Chapel of Remembrance is open from 9am until 4.15pm every day throughout the Christmas period and is open until 4.30pm on Christmas Eve.

HOSPITALS

The Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital will be open as normal over the festive period, with visiting times also unaffected.

GPs

Cumbria Health on Call (CHOC) provides out-of-hours care for any urgent but non-life-threatening conditions. It is open Monday Friday 6.30pm to 8am; 24 hours over the weekend and on bank holidays, including Christmas and New Year. Call 111 if you require assistance out of hours.
