St Bees RNLI began 2020 with plenty of smiles following the chilly annual New Year's Day dip.

The team were glad to once again attend the early morning dip at St Bees, organised each year by running club, St Bees Triers, and cheered along as over 100 people launched themselves into the Irish Sea to welcome the new year.

St Bees RNLI volunteers and Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team were all on hand to provide safety cover throughout the splash-about, with the RNLI opening their station doors to offer hot drinks and a warm place to dry off.

And the dip clearly got the fancy-dressed dippers feeling generous, as St Bees RNLI received over £290 from the morning.

St Bees RNLI operation manager, Dick Beddows was delighted, and said: "I would like to thank everyone who turned out on New Years day to support this popular event, and particularly St Bees Triers for organising this fundraiser for St Bees RNLI."
