Repair work on Hardwicke Circus has caused congestion along Castle Way.

Lanes are closed on the roundabout as off-peak barrier repair work takes place.

The closure on one of the lanes on the approach to the roundabout on Castle Way has led to long tailbacks stretching past the castle.

A Cumbria County Council spokesperson said: "They are repairing barriers and we expect the traffic restriction to be lifted within an hour.

An eyewitness said: "I was stuck in the traffic for about 15 minutes as cars waited to merge into the open lane.

"It seemed a bit chaotic as there weren't any signs letting people know one of the lanes was closed until a point where all the cars attempted to join the lane."

There will be further works taking place on Hardwicke Circus tomorrow on the barriers by the Sands Centre.
